Corridor Z is at the core a reaction game. While you make your runs through the corridors for rations and informations (you automaticly run towards the camera with the zombie horde in your back), you press WASD to reach up, left, right or down. You get little cues or sounds when to press the directions. And after each boss you defeated the time where you can react gets lower and lower. So you have to react quicker. One of these pickups you can take are letters (of a diary?), which partially explains what happens, why the school building is infested with zombies.

So your goal on each run is to quickly press in the directions where items appear to get an item and mostly, to create a hurdle to slow the zombie horde down. On corners you have to press in the direction of the hallway, or else you bump into the wall which means a end of the run. Also if you can't slow down the zombies enough, they will catch you, which also ends your run.

Ending your run doesn't mean to get a gameover (which is kinda weird), but that you retreat to a save room with your other two survivors and you lose 1 health of your 3 space healthbar. The health replenishs one by one after some time (you can see the time). So if one of the survivors is low on health, you have to pick another one for the next run. The game is kinda fun, even if it doesn't offer much.
You get new types of pickups for the survived days and the collected rations also act as currency to upgrade your weapons. So it's a little variation.
