In this video we revisit the sabot 7.62x54r. In our previous test we loaded a .224 caliber bullet into a 7.62x54r cartridge using a sabot from sabotreloadingpro.com. We saw devastating damage in our ballistic gelatin from both the 55gr FMJ and the 55gr SP.
In this video we take it a step further. We loaded a 22lr bullet into a standard 7.62x54r cartridge. We are the first group in recorded history to fire what would be the 5.58x54r cartridge. By taking the 40gr projectile and backing it with an entire Mosin Nagant round, we have made a bullet capable of firing 3200fps.
The Mosin Nagant is one of the most affordable powerful rifles on the market today. The 7.62x54mm is a large, fast moving, and relatively cheap round. By loading a 22 long rifle bullet into the casing, we have created a fast moving round that dumps all of it's energy within 8 inches of entering its target. This would make an outstanding varmint round.
