스트리트 파이터 3 시리즈부터 출연한 아프리카 케냐의 한 부족추장의 딸로, 카포에라를 사용한다. 샤돌루 격투가 연구소의 엘레나의 가족 캐릭터 도감에 따르면 아버지 자파리(ジャファリ, Jafari)는 주술사지만 프랑스 대학교로 유학가서 의약부문 박사학위도 따온 바 있는 의외의 엘리트. 오빠 마커스(マーカス, Marcus)는 카포에라의 달인이며 존경하는 아버지의 등을 보고 자랐다고 하며 아버지의 뒤를 이어 부족을 이끌어 나갈 예정이라고 한다. 디제이의 숨겨진 팬이다. 엘레나의 가족들은 주말에는 시내의 미술관이나 연극을 보러 가기도 한다. 아버지 자파리와 오빠 마커스는 울트라 스파 4의 아케이드 모드 프롤로그와 엔딩에서 등장한다.
아버지가 주술사이자 의약부문을 전공해서인지 엘레나의 초필살기 슈퍼 아츠 & 울트라 콤보 중에는 체력을 회복하는 기술 힐링이 있다. 하지만 스파 3 시리즈에선 헛점만빵에 시전시간도 비교적 긴 편인 데다가 스톡이 1개 뿐이라 울트라 스파 4와는 달리 거의 굴욕기 수준의 취급을 당한다.
전세계를 돌면서 친구를 만들기를 원하고 있으며 일본의 한 고등학교에 교환학생으로 가서 나루미라는 친구를 사귀기도 하였다. 현재는 프랑스의 대학으로 유학을 가있는 상태.
스트리트 파이터 시리즈 여캐 최장신으로 로즈보다도 훨씬 크다. 물론 캡콤 전체로 따지자면 슈퍼 머슬 보머의 블랙 위도우(205cm)가 있으므로 캡콤 전체 최장신까지는 아니다.
사용하는 유파가 유파이니만큼 기술은 모두 발로 사용하며 여캐임에도 불구하고 어지간한 남캐 이상의 키를 가진 덕에 전체적인 기술들의 리치가 상당하다. 뭔 기술이 나올지 헷갈리는 움직임이 일품. 대전 경험이 별로 없는 사람들은 이게 중단기가 나오는지 하단기가 나오는지 뭐가 나오는지 우왕좌왕하다가 순식간에 레버놓는 경우가 허다하게 발생한다.
마코토 다음가는 미끄러지듯 빠른 대쉬도 보유하고 있어 잡기심리도 상당히 강력하고 공중 타겟콤보, 정역에 유용한 점프 중킥과 타점도 헷갈리는 데다 2히트라 블로킹도 까다로운 점프 강킥, 판정깡패를 노릴 수 있는 서서/앞/뒤/강발 3셋트 덕분에 처음 상대하는 이들은 당황하기 마련이다.
슈퍼 아츠는 발로 하는 승룡열파인 '스피닝 비트'(3스톡, 슈퍼 아츠 1), 데미지가 짭짤한 난무계 '브레이브 댄스'(2스톡, 슈퍼 아츠 2), 그리고 이름 그대로 치유계인 '힐링'(1스톡, 슈퍼 아츠 3)이 있다. 보통 힐링은 버려지고 춘리의 앉아 중발 - 슈퍼 아츠 2 봉익선의 하위호환 식으로 한방을 노리는 유저들은 브레이브 댄스를 사용하고 빵빵한 3스톡 게이지를 이용한 EX기의 활용을 통한 짭짤한 콤보연계를 주력으로 삼는 유저는 스피닝 비트를 주로 사용한다.
다만 빈틈도 있다. 리버설이 빈약하고, 대쉬 속도는 빠른데 점프가 붕뜨는데다가 가드에 약해서 근, 중거리와 적절한 중/하단 심리전이 관건.몇가지 빈틈이 있어서 스파 3 시리즈나 울트라 스파 4나 엘레나의 평가는 그렇게까지 높지 않다. 약하지도 강하지도 않은 중견급 캐릭터.
Elena
Elena (エレナ Erena?) is a video game character from the Street Fighter series, first appearing in Street Fighter III: New Generation. She is a light hearted, nature-loving capoeira fighter from Kenya who is currently studying abroad.
Personality
Elena is a young girl with a strong, pure spirit and a cheerful "tomboy" personality similar to Sakura, Ibuki and fellow rival Makoto (though not as brash and fiery-tempered like the latter), as she is normally seen smiling or laughing sweetly. While very energetic and benevolent, she is also smart, sociable, and culture-adaptive, always eager to learn more about the world, which is part of the reason for her travels. She also has an unusual accent, which she refers to as something she got from her travels around the world in one of her win quotes in 3rd Strike. Elena is also able to hear and comprehend various rhythms as well as the voices of the wind and trees.
Elena's views of fighting and martial arts differ from most due to her light-hearted personality allowing her to befriend some people and annoy others. She is a very cheery person who looks to make friends which motivated her to join the 3rd world tournament to meet new people and hopefully make friends.
Elena is able to tell when she sees a pure evil person, seen in her win quote against M. Bison in Street Fighter X Tekken ("I don't need the wind to tell me that you are a very bad man!").
Concept
The development process of Elena started with the Street Fighter III team deciding on the country of origin before anything else. When they settled on Africa, they felt a female character would be more fitting than a male because a male fighter would end up being (stereotypically) "stern". The team chose Capoeira as a fighting style because their image of African women was that they had long arms and legs. At the time where there wasn't a lot of information available on Capoeira, the team had to get the most info from travel-related videos, buying everything off the shelves without knowing if the videos have any useful info or not.
Elena was also originally envisioned to use a long spear.
Fighting style and abilities
Elena's fighting style, Capoeira, is of West African and Brazilian origin. The style utilizes her strong, long legs to execute amazing dance-like moves and fancy legwork. As such, excluding grabs, her moveset consists entirely of kicks and leg throws. She is the first Street Fighter character to use only kicks, in contrast to Dudley and Balrog (excluding his stomp in one special attack and his Stomping Combo attack), who only use upper-body based attacks (e,g. punches, headbutts).
Elena is one of the two characters in the Street Fighter III games with a move that regenerates her health in the middle of a match, the other being Gill. Overall she and Gill are two of the few Street Fighter characters with this kind of ability; the only other such occurrence within the main series is in Street Fighter Alpha 3, when Juli and Juni, fighting together as an AI-controlled sub-boss team, can also heal themselves. Outside of the main series, Ace from Street Fighter EX3 has a healing super move among the moves the player can assign to him, and in the Street Fighter: The Movie game released for arcades, all characters had the ability to restore health.
