449. Eila and Something Shiny - Chapter 0 - Day 1 - Various Failures
000:00 CONTENT: Blind playthrough but stuck on Rule difficulties, rather than big spoilers.
00:10 Best watched at 1.25x speed.
1:10 The H deck is not used in Chapter 0, no need to set it up.
1:20 the rulebook instructs to set up the H deck - for chapter 1.
1:25 Red event deck cards usually go back to the Red event deck.
1:30 wrote Blue Event Deck, usually for future events.
1:50 the Item Deck is not used at all in Chapter 0.
2:00 It seems that nothing is drawn at random but events sometimes allow you to select a card by icon. This means you have to guess the name and find it in an alphabetical stack.
2:40 to not make boards self-descriptive is an avoidable oversight.
2:45 better: at night, shuffle to create Upcoming for next day.
3:07 not naming things is bad. It's Eila's Goal card, maybe? With stats.
3:14 no, "storage" is the boxes below the board.
4:00 The rulebook also says there's an advanced side, but for Chapter 0 both sides are identical. From Ch1 on there is a difference - half the hearts.
4:36 no matter - just make sure not all are filled or it's game over!
6:20 it SEEMS clear that 006 goes into the future, but choice B makes no sense when you draw the next upcoming card without regard to your choice.
8:00 EVERYONE who played Eila has come across this, and NOBODY mentions it.
11:00 damnit I said FUTURE, and I put it in the PAST.
12:00 AGAIN wrong deck, arrows clearly point to future.
12:20 I just triggered a death spiral...
Overall, Ice Makes has obviously forgotten any tutorial or description of Chapter 0. The rulebook goes straight into Chapter 1.
When you find a copy, you will face the same difficulties as I have, so take care to enrich your board with the following clarifications.
Important note: much later I found on bgg the 2.2 rulebook that answers most of these questions. Why on earth Ice Makes puts it behind a wall in bgg instead of simply hosting it on his own website is totally beyond me.
