Two short horror FMV games? Well, THE FAN only uses a little FMV at the beginning, and the rest is still photographs and environment navigation. Be warned that this is a disturbing game, as we play a psychopathic serial killer who has kidnapped a woman. It's unsettling to see violence carried out against real actors (especially when you don't expect it--I didn't expect the punch in the face). This is a well-made game, though, with large amounts of seens and shots as we search for the key items at each location. The developers put a good bit of effort into this for a shorter game. Chat enjoys seeing all the cool nerd posters/books/movies/figurines at one in-game location. If we manage to recreate the scene, fulfilling our twisted desire, what will Nathalie's fate be.
MY BLOODY WEKEND is a more traditional FMV game, and damn I wanted to like it, seeing as it's supposed to be a golden-age slasher. After a couple of attempts, however, I wasn't finding it fun. There are no save points, no checkpoints, and no way to skip what yu've already seen. At some of the interactive points, the game will flash a number of buttons fo ryou to press taht don't correspond with the action. Miss ONE of them, and you'll die after the scene ends and have to start the game over. The premise and the video are fun, but after the killer catches us and carves us up again, I don't feel the need to keep retrying until I succeed, even though I probably could eventually.
