Very belated birthday stream in my new place, and possibly te most raids I've ever gotten. I play a wide variety of old arcade games once again, starting with a round of CRIME CITY, seeing how far I can get one one credit. Someday I'll 1CC it. Someday.

TOKYO WARS is a tank combat game, but this ain't Battlezone! It's from 1995, and fully 3D with pretty good graphics. This is one of those games where you play till the end of the match and one team wins--there's no continuing to later levels (I think). It's probably even more fun with four-player multiplayer.

Did I mention that I played almost all of these off the Internet Archive this year, since it's easier than mucking about with MAME on my ard drive? It's great how many are up there!

NEMO, from our friends at Capcom, is an adaptation of Little Nemo In Slumberland, a newspaper comic that debuted in the 1900s (the aughts, that is). Chat thinks it's actually a direct adaptation of a late 80s film version, which some people recommend. This game is weird enough that I want to check out the movie. It plays well and feels like it cna be mastered, even if I die plenty. Most people are more familiar with the NES game thatn this one, and I speculate that it could use the same engine as Midnight Wanderers.

Next we take it old-school with one of the first arcade games I played, 1942, which I don't htink I've played more than once or twice since I was a little kid. It looks good enough that we're surprised it's from 1984. It's a tough one, though, and after a couple of runs, I still only make it a couple of levels in. 32 levels one one credit? Not likely! I take a crack at the sequel, 1943, which gives you a life bar. I die in 20 seconds flat. 1942 is tough, but 1943 is ridiculous!

That wasn't old-school enough, so we go from WWII to WWI and from 1984 to 1979 with S.O.S.. It's a decently fun "survive as long as you can" game. Chat has a somewhat adverse reaction to the sound design, and I mercifully mute it.

We know I love rail shooters, and next I play through a lesser known one in the Lethal Enforcers vein: UNDER FIRE. (Taito is overrepresented this stream by coincidence.) I'm sure I wouldn't die QUITE so frequently if I had a lightgun instead of a mouse, but by how much? And can we talk about how dumb civilians can be in these rail shooters? It's like they want me to shoot them. Whatever, we put an end to crime by killing everyone.

For the third year in a row, I play a kind of humorous WIld West shooter, HEATED BARREL, another that's new to me. It starts out easy enough and seems fun, but the difficulty gets pretty harsh by the end. I almost beat it but think I accidentally selected not to continue. The bosses have some great defeat animations in this one.

I doubt I'll ever do my birthday stream during "FMV February" again, so it's the perfect excuse to play a laserdisc FMV game from the arcades: TIME GAL. Some in chat recognize this from the PS1 or Sega CD ports. Our protagonist, a rather attractive lady, has to travel to many different time periods and try to stop the villain, mostly just by surviving. A real quarter muncher consisting of quick time events, this is actually fun to watch and play, leaving you wanting to get further and see what's next. The animation's great, and they don't skimp on the death scenes. The voice acting is all in Japanese, but the villain's laugh, which I seem to trigger every thirty seconds, is universal.

Then I realize how late it is and that I am probably being too noisy, so we wrap it up before I can reach for a beat-em-up or something. Thanks to everyone who hung out for my birthday. I raise an octopus orb-flavored pretzel stick to you. (It makes sense in context.)
