DataQueen, by Darren Grey

Another very creative work! There's a lot to be said of games that use as few controls as possible while providing as much as can be done with them: this game is movement only, but what you do with that movement and the combat of bumping into enemies becomes surprisingly complex! Note that when I say complex here, I don't mean "game complexity", which has to do with minimum information to play properly, but decision complexity, which arises from a game having a proper depth. And boy does this game have some depth!

Enemy types are relatively few, attack types are similar, but the combinations brought about from those alone, to speak nothing of enemy grouping variations, springs a great wealth of possibility. It's all about finding combinations that work, mistakes that don't, and picking up on strategies as you go. Definitely a game that requires experience, but in such a way that engages the player constantly to come back better than before. Needless to say I really like this approach to games, or at least to roguelikes: complex games have their place, but simple ones shine in the roguelike arena.
