Here we make the loop through what I generally consider to be "phase 2" of the game. That is, Eygus, Pell, Guntz, Patrof. The rest of the cities here are all preface, make no mistake. This is all about Patrof, in my opinion one of the hardest areas in all of gaming. It has haunted me since early childhood. This video consists of 21 segments.

I start out by making the run to Eygus. I messed up my audio again here, but I address it somewhere around Guntz.

NOTE: The run from Melenam to Guntz here is done in one single segment. That's why there are some moments where I meander about that didn't get cut.

NOTE: The previous time I did this chunk of the game, I killed Lux here and let Valsu talk to the Elder. This did not work to reduce the levels of the apprentice in Patrof. Either the level determination here is based off your "main character" and not party leader, or the actual deciding event is at some precise point other than "when you speak to the Elder".

4:05 I begin the run from Eygus to Pell.

6:18 I make the run to Guntz and then complete the Water Rune quest. After this I take a brief detour to restock some stuff, then use the P.Seed I got in Guntz.

11:15 With the preamble out of the way, I begin the journey to Patrof. From this point, every single inch of progress is an absolute nightmare. An encounter with Coccoons, Titans, Defeats, S.Witches, or Mantas all have a high chance of being a wipe. The run to Patrof here looks incredibly smooth, but it took hours to get a path this clear.

13:34 I dip a toe into Patrof Cave to grab the chest with an A.Seed. Since much of my strategy here relies on running, the boost to speed is a priority.

The Spideks in Patrof Cave have a speed of 90. That is way too much speed for an enemy that appears in nearly every fight this early in the game. For comparison, R.Pison's speed was 55. There is a very real chance Spidek's will dodge everything you throw at them, especially in a low level run like this. Any fight involving a Spidek has probably a 30% chance of wiping me.

Furthermore, Patrof has more Tricks than any other area in the entire game. That's particularly cruel in this run, since I have to farm each one for an Emerald.

Finally, there is the fact that the boss of Patrof is another apprentice, who is 5 levels higher than you (at the time you talk to the Elder in Eygus). This bit is infamously difficult, however on a low level run the apprentice here is actually quite a bit easier than usual, because they haven't had time to rack much of the Elnard Buff and overtake your character.

15:12 I make the perilous trek through Patrof Cave. This is the stuff of my nightmares, and typically involves a ton of grinding before I even attempt it. In this run, that's not really an option. When I finally reach Patrof Castle, I can't remember if any of the chests here are Tricks, so I dare not risk opening one. Otherwise I could have saved a sequence here. After getting Olvan (my traitor) to open the front gate, I come back for these chests.

Olvan isn't a great choice for Traitor in a low level run. He learns Fire 2 early and can one-shot you with it, but he learns Defense as well, and can't easily be one-shot. Still, my level 10 Lux can kill a level 15 Olvan. The problem is, because Valsu died on R.Pison, killing Olvan will level Lux, and I can't have that. Instead I farm Tricks until Lux is ready to level.

23:39 I farm several non-Trick chests from the Cave of Patrof, and grab the hidden Ruby near the lake.

28:40 I make the run to farm the middle and hardest-to-reach Trick. This Emerald took over 13 hours of discarded gameplay to finally get. The number of Spideks you have to wade through, plus the Trick itself, plus the odds of getting an Emerald make for a terribly brutal RNG combination. By the time I finally got it, I forgot to grab the Pr.Seed next to him and had to come back for it. This isn't a huge ordeal since I had to come back in for the final non-Trick chest anyway. This run is remarkable because it's completely clean, with no random encounters on the way to the chest. It's a perfect example of how the hardest parts of this video series are often hidden behind the scenes, as my victorious runs rely on extreme luck.

After this I make another shopping trip.

37:10 I farm another R.Trick, which puts Lux near ready to level.

41:40 Lux gains level 11.

42:36 I finally take down Olvan. Going from level 10 to 11 makes him a real joke, since he can't (or at least doesn't) one-shot me with Fire 2 here.

45:20 Third Patrof R.Trick.

48:12 Fourth Patrof R.Trick. I try to save myself an Exigate here. Instead I not only lose way more than the value of an Exigate, but nearly lose the Emerald I just gained.

53:45 Valsu gains level 9.

54:40 The fifth and final R.Trick of Patrof.
