Developed by Santa Clara and Published by Badland Games, 8day comes to PS4 and xbox1 after debuting on PC last year. The game is a top-down twin stick shooter, where the focus is on surgically taking out enemies using guerilla tactics, as opposed to just spraying your gunfire, because ammunition is limited. There's dozens of different guns and melee weapons you'll encounter throughout the game's 5 missions, and it takes about 5 hours to complete, and you will die a lot. 3 bullet wounds or one close quarters hit will send you back to the one of the nearest checkpoints, which aren't too far apart. The left stick moves, the right stick aims, and the right trigger fires. R1 reloads, and you should only reload when you clip is low or you end up wasting bullets. The left trigger throws your weapon, which is very useful with melee weapons like the axe. You can carry up to two weapons at once. And you need to hold x to pick up ammo, you can't just walk over it, even if it matches your weapon type.
Don't go into 8days expecting to be a gun nut, you're gunna be sorry. Most of the time is spent kiting enemies and precision aiming. You're constantly on the lookout for health and ammo. And some of the levels require contrived tactics before acquiring your first firearm. The enemies are fairly clever and will try dodging and anticipating your fire, making them all the more brutal. I found the bosses to be total weaksauce, and again where's my ammo? There's hidden paths and Easter eggs to be found, but I wish I could interact with more than just doors. The two player mode is fun, although you'll be strapped for bullets, and the music and sound design is commendable. Overall, 8Days is tricky twin stick shooter that encourages cowardice tactics. Heads up, if you're a PS4 owner and are still hellbent on purchasing this, I recommend you hold off until the game is patched. It's crashes frequently and you can lose a lot of progress. Keep an eye on the comment section, and I'll let you know when the patch comes out.
