8088MPH Party Version IBM PC/XT Real Hardware 60fps Demonstration
Last week I captured the 8088MPH Final Version demo using a new-style IBM CGA and an I-O Data GV-USB2 capture card : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSiY9URdDHk
This week I am going to capture the 8088MPH Party Version using an old-style IBM CGA card and a Dazzle DVC-100 USB2 capture card.
Like the prior video, 8088MPH is running on an IBM PC/XT with a real IBM CGA card. This version of the demo was released at Revision 2015 (April) and won first place in the oldskool demo category. This version is especially picky about the card it runs on. Not only were the colors calibrated for an old style CGA card, one of the tricks displayed correctly with a CGA card with an MC6845 CRTC. Many of the new style CGA cards use an HD6845 CRTC. The card used to display this video has a MC6845 CRTC.
The Final Version of the demo was released a few months later in July. The Final Version has several differences and improvements, including a color calibration screen, old/new style CGA detection and eliminates the need to have an MC6845 CRTC.
My friend Jim, one of the authors of this demo, put up a reference video here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHXx3orN35Y&t=7s
My video is different mainly because I am directly capturing the PC Speaker using alligator clips. He connected the PC Speaker to the PC Speaker input header on a Sound Blaster Pro/16/AWE. Personally I prefer capturing the output directly, even though it is a lot less convenient. I do not like how the Sound Blaster or the Pro Audio Spectrum 16 filter the PC Speaker output.
