#831 King of Fighters Maximum Impact 2 (PS2) Hidden Characters (13/13): Richard Myer playthrough.
Playthrough of the hidden character Richard Myer in SNK’s King of Fighters Maximum Impact 2/King of Fighters 2006.
Richard Fucking Myer.
For those of you who’ve be following this series for a long time (or have just actually bothered to go through the playlists), you might know that I’ve actually covered Richard Myer before. 823 videos ago, to be exact. Yeah. That’s a hell of a long reunion for a Fatal Fury 1 character, that’s for sure. This is also his only legitimately playable instance in a fighting game, which makes it even weirder, a bit like with Uranus in BR3 sharing a bunch of characteristics with the unplayable BR1 Uriko.
As you’d probably hope, one of his alternate costumes is Bob Wilson, the character who effectively replaced him in the Fatal Fury series. Myer cameoed in a number of Fatal Fury games after the first one, but never returned in the same capacity which many other characters did.
As a Brazilian character his moveset, unsurprisingly, consists of Capoeira moves, the same fighting style utilised by Eddy Gordo and Christie Monteiro in the Tekken series. Although he’s understandably gained a ton of new moves, rather hilariously he does keep his spinning jump from Fatal Fury 1, executed with the input qcf+K. God I love the detail in this series.
In terms of playstyle, Richard Myer is a fucking beast. He has crouching combos, which border on broken in this game, and the majority of his special moves easily interweave into powerful, easy to use, long-reaching and hard-hitting supers. He builds up super meter like its nothing, has a number of on-the-ground attacks and can even link into his supers with ease after having already executed a long and powerful combo. Basically, he’s just brilliant. And given the horrendous gameplay I did of him back in Fatal Fury 1, it only made sense to complete a playthrough with him here, to set things right. I took no chances with Jivatma, as you’ll see in the video, but given that Myer uses Capoeira it means that I took him out with relative ease. Brazilians have a real knack for developing martial arts, which other fighting styles such as Brazilian Jiu-jitsu are a testament to. I’m so glad I was able to do another video on Richard Myer and to get a bit of closure, as it were. Now, if only SNK would bring back Michael Max in some form.
That finishes it up for the Maximum Impact series. It’s not a sublime series to any extent, but there is a lot of fun to be had with these two games, especially for those who have extensive knowledge of SNK’s franchises.
Up next, it’s more KOF. Not good KOF though, but at least it sees the return of another long-dormant character.
