#862 Samurai Shodown Sen (X360) Bosses (2/2): Draco gameplay.
Gameplay of the sub-boss Draco in SNK’s Samurai Shodown Edge of Destiny/Samurai Shodown Sen.
“Hmm, so we’re making a back-to-basics, no nonsense fighting game about the fluidity and dexterity of close-quarters combat. You know what this needs? A boss with a gun.” – The asshole who thought this was a good idea.
Draco is a fucking monster. An absolutely monster. He is not unbeatable, but without the Throw Method I mentioned last time, he would be next to it. Draco is the sub-boss of the game, and he’s honestly worse than Golba. Why? He’s uses a fucking gun. A fucking gun. A goddamn, fucking gun. A goddamn fucking, goddamn, goddamn, goddamn gun. In a close-quarters fighting game, which is all about close combat and relatively realistic attacks. He can attack at range, at will, with a variety of insanely powerful and cheap attacks. Oh, and you know what? You know what? His bullets can’t be blocked. At all. I mean, it makes sense, but they actually can’t be blocked. You either have to sidestep his attacks (which barely works, as side-stepping here is stiffer than Tekken 3), or you have to jump or duck to avoid his shots. Did you enjoy the shitty, half-arsed Tanegashima “boss” fight in Soul Blade? Well, now you can endlessly relive a much shitter version of it, all thanks to SNK. Satan himself would have trouble thinking of something this heinous.
Draco’s moves are not just broken, they’re offensive. You know when a competitive sportsman does something intentionally disrespectful after an impressive feat? All of Draco’s moves are like that. They all add insult to injury. He has a kick combo with a delayed shot at the end of it, which he even turns away to fire. He has an insanely long shooting combo, where if enough shots hit the opponent they will be launched into the air and juggled for the remainder of the combos. He can also do a roll into a shot, as well as a ridiculous backflip into a shot, which he can also do endlessly I might add. Basically, every comes down to him easily hitting the player with overpowered, unblockable ranged attacks. In a fighting game. The only real way to take him out is to either time run in and counter him when he’s preparing an attack, or to just get in close and endlessly throw him until he’s dead. He’s not impossible, but the sheer amount of power he does have is utterly terrifying.
Draco’s shots are not only unblockable, but they can extremely tricky to dodge, especially with his ability to back-flip away from you constantly. How tricky, you might ask? Tricky to the point that the AI, on the expert difficulty, has a major problem against it. Tricky to the point that if you just keep spamming his Backflip and Shot move over and over again (the LB button on a 360 controller), the AI will more or less never be able to stop you.
