0So, let's talk studying for a second.
Studying the various things you gather will give you a one time boost in one or more XP. It's generally the easiest way to get blue XP until you advance a little down the tech tree and get easier ways of farming it(turning hemp into rope, glass into flasks, or make fancy grave decorations). However, it is a very finite resource, since you can only study anything once. So, the best advice I can give: Before you study anything, learn how to make cakes by gathering up some honey and trading it to the homeless dude, Dig, in town for the recipe. To make it, you need flour, milk, egg, honey, and berries, which can all be bought in town or gathered from bushes and trees if you don't have the farm yet(in which case you can grow the flour). Later, Grape Pies will also be available, but the grapes can be more difficult to come across for a long while.
So, why are cakes necessary? Eating one gives you a buff that lasts for a couple of minutes that makes anything you study give you extra points. Since you only have a limited amount of things to study, you want to maximize the benefits you get from anything. And considering how much faith it takes to study, you're only going to get to study one or two things per week for a while.
