#926 SoulCalibur III (PS2) Unplayable Characters (1/8): Charade playthrough.
A playthrough of the unplayable character Charade in the Namco’s SoulCalibur III/Soul Calibur 3.
When there are more unplayable characters than hidden playable ones, you know you’re playing a strange title. Actually, hold that thought, it will be relevant when I eventually get to Mortal Kombat Deception.
So Charade returns as an unplayable character, and by the time this and the next two videos are over you’ll be glad that he never made an official reappearance. Due to the fact that this game has a new roulette character (Olcadan), Charade’s assets were presumably ripped from SCII and he was brought into this game to be a generic opponent for Tales of Souls. Back in the day, I was a bit miffed that a previously playable character was suddenly unuseable, but now I can see why he isn’t playable. Charade is very underdeveloped, as you might expect for an unplayable, but it’s more than that. He uses the custom character wave sword moveset, and the only unique move of his is his unblockable laser attack (d+1+2) which would be useful, were it not for the fact that it has far too much start up and only fires horizontally, making its practical application pretty useless. What’s more, Charade seems to inflict far less damage than regular characters, putting him at a hell of a disadvantage in combat. I think the wave swords suit him personally, but as it stands he’s very underwhelming here, and not a character who could really stand up to the rest of the cast. Still a little odd he wasn’t made a bonus character though, and it definitely feels like you miss out on something by not getting to play as a character who was playable in the previous game. Again, very similar to MK Deception in that way.
Next up, more Charade. Well, technically less Charade. You’ll see what I mean.
