#928 SoulCalibur III (PS2) Unplayable Characters (3/8): Charade (eyeball) playthrough.
A playthrough of the unplayable character Charade eye/eyeball in the Namco’s SoulCalibur III/Soul Calibur 3.
Yeah, now he’s just an eyeball. I told you this was a weird game.
This, the final version of Charade, however is surprisingly good. He doesn’t have any weapons, but somehow manages to fight with invisible weapons. Oh man, now we’re harkening back to Soul Blade. How poetic.
Strangely enough however, this version is more competent than the other two. Why? Well, his strikes come out faster and they deal decent damage, in contrast to the reduced damage of the other two forms of Charade. He has a couple of juggle moves (including his running B attack, which tends to throw the enemy off) and in general he seems quick enough to counter the opponent and wail away at them before they can counter-attack. He’s also at something of an advantage because his hit-box is pretty small, but like Gon in Tekken 3 means he’s not suspectible to a fair number of regular attacks. We’ll see this again with another character, curiously enough, and the strange part is that that one is actually official.
Lastly, Charade’s form here has the unblockable laser attack which the other two possessed, however this time it’s done horizontally as opposed to vertically. This would be useful…were it not for the fact that its damage output is pitiful, and is leaves him wide open to being counter-attacked. Can’t win them all I suppose.
That’s it for Charade. An interesting character to revisit, probably because he was always so mysterious in SCII, something which was built upon by his unplayable appearances in this game as well. Ultimately, he’s too simplistic as a character to truly be interesting, but despite that I’m glad he reappeared in this game, if only because anomalies are always fun to cover.
Next up, another anomaly which is reminiscent of something out of Soul Blade.
