I think a lot of people fail to realize just how much an advantage having a summon really is despite how often they refuse to press forward (both in terms of action and in terms of progress) when they don't have one. It's not just a joke that summoning is the easy mode of the SoulsBorne games, it's more of an observation.

Sidenote: The Barker Bomb Bait is utterly horrible in DeS because for some reason hardly anyone rolls in response to them. There are more people willing to take that damage to the face or are just naturally side stepping it than there are people who roll away from them much less towards them.
