I'm not exactly sure what dictates how much hp an Old Monk player gains when a summon enters the room, or if there are any passive defense buffs, but my guess is it has something to do with their soul level difference to the host. What I do know though is that if it weren't for having a large VIT investment on this character I would have been dead very rapidly, regardless of that boost, just from 3 people mindlessly spamming R1 with their Large Swords of Searching for one of the meanest blenders I've had to deal with.

Note that the Large Sword of Searching is fully upgraded once you transmute a weapon into it, so this isn't just a case of co-op players having bad weapons. Rather it's a case of co-op players getting far into the game by shear brute force and despite notably leveling up multiple stats they never really bothered leveling up VIT themselves.
