A Weird and Fun Debug Feature in DuckTales (NES) - Retrogaming Easter Eggs #shorts
It turns out the developers of DuckTales for the NES left a strange and kind of fun but not entirely practical debug feature that allows you to wrap around from the bottom to the top of the screen. Thanks, Capcom!
In Ducktales for the NES, if you hold the up arrow on the second controller while falling into certain pits or holes, Scrooge will wrap around to the top of the screen. This weird cheat is thought to be a leftover debug feature according to certain sources like The Cutting Room Floor - https://tcrf.net/index.php?title=DuckTales_%28NES%29&type=revision&diff=594735&oldid=594725
The trick won't work if Scrooge falls into a pit that would normally cause you to lose a life, so it really only works on holes that are designed to make the screen scroll to new areas. It's not entirely practical, although it can save you some time when climbing up long ropes and such. Plus, there are certain areas where implementing this debug feature causes the game to glitch (like I showcased in the African Mines).
But overall it's just a fun little thing to try out. And I never knew about it until this week!
