A[2] Heart of Stone Softend by Machines - NieR: Automata
After a lot of sidetracking, here we finally get to helping out some of the village with its problems, or rather helping with ONE problem and then being forced to pay to have a slide built for some pushy bratty kids.
But, y'know, those kids were still so sweet and... trusting. Makes you wanna make sure nothing bad happens to them. On top of that, A2 could've said no. Hell, she could've killed them all on the spot. She CHOSE not to, showing that there is a softer side to her. It's actually a good metaphor considering that her entire body is always on display at all times, leaving nothing to hide for the imagination, and yet there are still sides of her that she keeps hidden. She's both fully naked and completely covered up at the same time.
But, slowly, it seems like her character is showing past her initial bitterness. Can't exactly blame her. We don't know the full story of went on between her and Command, or I guess her whole squad and the rest of YoRHa, but it didn't seem to have left a good impression on her. From her talk with Anemone as well as her own memories, something bad happened to her squad, and it involved both the machines and something unforgivable by Command, because A2 has a burning hatred for both. A... personal hatred. She's no longer part of YoRHa, so her crusade against machines has no ties to duty, and the first time she spoke with Pascal showed her personal motivation behind her vendetta against them.
So it's very interesting to even see her STARTING to warm up to the machines in Pascal's village, for her to come to terms with the fact that her enemy is not the blanket case she thought it was, and that the machines can be just as human as her. This is something 9S had to learn as well. It's hard humanizing with your enemy, especially even sympathizing with them, but it's good to understand that the sins of a few - or even many - of a particular race or species, does not mean all of that group are to be condemned. Such a mindset completely erases individuality.
And as a final note, NO I have NOT forgotten about the rabbit!
