One of the biggest disappointments I've purchased in recent years has to be the PlayStation portal. This not so portable portable device for the PlayStation really has not worked well for me from day one. It's laggy, has unbelievable amounts of delay, and overall has been a terrible experience. I heard recently that Sony provided a software update that was supposed to drastically improve the overall performance of the system so I decided to put it to the test.

I went ahead and performed the firmware update, and after not turning the system on for over 6 months I was actually surprised that the system even still had battery life left. It quickly updated and I connected it to my system via remote play. in addition to the firmware updates I've also heard people have turned down the output resolution to 1080p from 4K and reduce the frame rate to 30 FPS to improve overall performance. By pushing a lower quality image and lower frame rate the system should not have to work as hard, meaning in theory it should have fewer issues.

The game I probably play more than any other on my PlayStation 5 is MLB The show, and I use the pitching meter interface for the game. I also use timing for my hitting interface. From the word go it was still completely unplayable. The first two pitches my player didn't even swing the bat. The third pitch I had to swing so early that I had no chance of hitting anything.

On the other side of the ball, pitching was just as broken. The timing meter was way off, and no matter what I did it never got any better. For the games that I play, the PlayStation Portal is still completely unusable.

Have you had better experiences with your PlayStation Portal? Have you ever gotten it to work properly? For me I think the PlayStation Portal is an absolute train wreck and garbage and one of the biggest regrets I've had in gaming in recent years. To be is still an unplayable lag beast.
