I don't know about you, but I was super disappointed when Sony removed backward compatibility from the PlayStation 3 models in later revisions. It made the original versions much more sought after, especially now. I actually had one of the original 80 gig units that unfortunately got bricked from a firmware update. I later on replaced it with a 120 gig model, but it's not backward compatible. Or is it? Did you know that all PlayStation 3 models have some version of backwards compatibility? It's true! Let's take a look.

What many may not realize, and I guess I never really paid attention to, is the fact that all PlayStation 3 models are backwards compatible, they're just not all backwards compatible with the PlayStation 2. So what does that mean? That means you can actually play PlayStation 1 games through your PlayStation 3 regardless of what version you have.

These days, what's the benefit of doing something like this? Why would you want to play your PlayStation 1 games through a PlayStation 3? The most obvious is the fact that you get to connect to an HDMI port directly from your system versus needing some sort of mod or converter. While the emulation of the PlayStation 1 on the PlayStation 3 isn't perfect, it's pretty darn good and for the average player it is more than good enough.

Did you know that all PlayStation 3's are compatible with the PlayStation 1 discs? Do you prefer to play PlayStation 1 games on the PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2, or PlayStation 3? share your thoughts in the comments!
