0ACA NEOGEO THRASH RALLY for Windows by HAMSTER Corporation/SNK CORPORATION, 2019.
This has an extremely long title for an official port of the 1991 SNK arcade game Thrash Rally. You can pick this up on Microsoft Store. The "ACA" part means "Arcade Archives", a series of arcade game ports from HAMSTER Corporation. Originally released on the Neo Geo arcade hardware, this is a relatively simple arcade racer, but not entirely an easy one!
A mix of WRC stages (Monte Carlo, Safari, Greece, Finland and UK), plus a longer stage representing the Paris-Dakar event (with additional bike, buggy and truck), this is a tricky little game. Each car (based on a variety of rally vehicles) handles a little differently, but all oversteer if pushed too hard. The countdown time limit on some tracks allow for little error.
Most tracks have repeating elements, meaning if you fluff up a section, you can feel extra tense when you face the same section again, usually just near the end of the stage!
Sound is okay for the era, but nothing to write home about. The most amusing thing is working out which real brands have been tweaked in-game (my favourite being SPANCO instead of SPARCO!).
