Accommodation for over 600 troops in Germany faces unexpected closure 21.06.11
British Forces Germany has confirmed that Trenchard Barracks in Celle is to close when The 2nd Battalion, The Royal Regiment Fusiliers leave in Summer 2012. They were scheduled to move to Cyprus but today the German authorities have been told that they won't be replaced by the 2nd Battalion, the Royal Anglian Regiment as expected. Therefore the Barracks will close and be returned to the German authorities soon after the summer. Trenchard Barracks has been occupied by the British Military for 55 years and is used to house Army regiments on rotation every two years. It currently accommodates more than six hundred troops and their families, and is officially part of the Hohne garrison. Its not yet known where the Royal Anglians will be posted.
