Rehab units in Germany help injured soldiers get fighting fit 21.06.11
When a soldier is injured at theatre, their combat injury is likely to be treated at QEH in Birmingham or Headley Court. If it's a non-combat injury, then Regional Rehab Units are in place, 12 in the UK and 2 in Germany. The Gutersloh Regional Rehab Unit in Germany aims to help all patients get back on track and ultimately get upgraded. As well as intensive physio, the course includes daily lessons on everything from posture to the correct running shoes to healthy eating. The rehab clinic serves 60% of British Forces Germany and due to the increase in operational tempo and higher demands on all personnel, the number of new referrals has dramatically increased. In the first five months of 2007, there were 148 new referrals compared to 358 in 2011, a staggering 142% increase.
