We went through the Valley of Kings once. Today, we face one in the flesh.
By virtue of technology alone, AC7 would always be the most gorgeous AC yet. But they went beyond that - Yinshi Valley and Shilage are some of the most beautiful locations ever depicted in a video game. If the former is spectacular by scale alone, Space Transylvania is graced by amazing lighting and the best application of surface-level clouds in the game. Its graphically demanding, and I got some frame drops, but it's truly an astonishing sight. We definitely need more missions at dawn. And the music tops it off - absolutely top notch, both of them.
The mission doesn't disappoint either. While it provides you a healthy number of targets at the start, it still feels you're attacking a small force, enhancing the emotional punch provided by the great radio script. Sol Squadron and Mr. X's role will depend on your opinion of their moves - fair for some, BS for others. As often, I'm a moderate: I do feel cheated out of a hit sometimes, but they also provide opportunities I can take (or fail to).
The more I play the final act of AC7, the more I like it - a sign of quality, because otherwise the novelty would wear off. Some consider it disappointing, and I somewhat shared that sentiment at first, but not anymore. The missions are beautifully written, play greatly for the most part, and I'm greatly enjoying this playthrough.
The last of the eurocanards gets its place in the morning sun here. I find the Brimstone 8AGMs (and 8AAMs) to be incredibly wasteful - rarely if ever would the multiple hits be useful, specially on ground targets. But they do suit this mission, for its spread out targets and, if only, as a good excuse to go for the no SPW vs Mihaly medal. 4AGMs would still be better, though. I love the SPW variety in AC7, but these Macross salvos really don't work well.
And I don't have the Deluxe Edition emblems, so... we make do.
