Action Roguelike Dungeon Crawler + Bullet Hell, in Space! – Galactic Glitch Prologue –
Galactic Glitch Prologue is a Sci-Fi, Top Down, Twin Stick Shooter set in space, an Action Roguelike Dungeon Crawler + Bullet Hell rocking both random Procedural Generation of the lvls, and a Physics engine! Wow! Galactic Glitch Prologue is also 100% free!
It’s not just talk or a bullet point here; the Physics adds a lot!
The Physics:
Everything has physics here, and it greatly shapes the feel and flow of the combat.
First: there is no bump damage on enemies, and enemies have collision, so if you bump onto them, you bounce off.
So, unlike many of the Vampire Survivors likes appearing, there is no damage on touch here, and you cannot just walk through enemies like they’re even not there; in Galactic Glitch, your foes have physicality, and presence!
The dungeon “rooms” themselves here have physics as well, which might sound odd, as you are in space.
But, you aren’t just in space; you’re in a space bubble!
Not kidding!
The “rooms” in Galactic Glitch seem to be composed of space bubbles; big, connected space bubbles, and you are bounced off the sides if you try to go too far.
It sounds silly, but it works well, both subdividing areas of interest between space, and looking incredible.
Also, it’s not just the enemies that have the power of physics.
The asteroids floating around the rooms do too, creating a nice bit of destructible cover, and serve as excellent ammo for the grav gun.
What is a grav gun you ask?
Awesomeness! That’s what!
The Combat:
The star of the combat is the Grav Gun; the gravity gun.
The grav gun feels so good, just grabbing and tossing small rocks and bombs at enemies is so fun, and it hits hard!
You can literally suck up and blast back enemy launched missiles, blasting them apart with their own weapons; so good!
You can even hoover up the little enemy fighters, and blast them right back at your foes; so fun and funny! YUM! 😋
Beyond The Grav Gun!
While the Grav Gun is indeed awesome, you are more than some one-trick space pony!
You got other guns too!
The default gun fire is a 3 round burst, it doesn’t hit very hard, but it does its best work from behind.
That’s right you dastardly rogue: you get extra backstab damage from shooting an enemy from behind, right up the engine! 😮
I really like how the directional weapon systems and attacks encourage you to circle your prey, dodging their attacks as you maneuver around them to blast them from behind; it makes it feel like a space dogfight!
Also, shooting the default main gun seems to reduce your speed by about 50% while it is firing.
This is very good, as it adds some consequence to the player decision of when they choose to fire or not.
You also have a secondary gun that charges off damage dealt, and a very useful dash dodge on a 1 second cooldown, use it often!
As you blast your way through the SciFi Space dungeons, you can find additional main guns, secondary guns, as well as upgrades you can find after defeating rooms: max hp increases, increases to grav gun thrown objects, or main gun damage, handy stuff like that.
Sometimes, you can find green health pickups too.
And there are portals with optional challenges, if you wipe out the waves of enemies warping in, you get to select 1 of 3 upgrades for the run; oh ya!
There are shops to find, that trade scrap for healing or 1 of 3 upgrades; you cannot attack the shop :(.
There are also rift powers you get after clearing a zone; passive power ups that are very strong, and help you get ready for handling the big, bad space boss!
Controller support is present, but currently has non-rebindable keys.
I feel certain that will change, but for now, good old mouse and keyboard, which both feels far more responsive and is completely key re-bindable, is the way to go for me.
Note: This is a look at Galactic Glitch Prologue, not the full game’s launch, so any bugs or other oddness is not representative of the final product.
Still, Galactic Glitch Prologue is a fast and fun SciFi Action Roguelike with meaningful and impactful Physics that really make the action feel weighty, without slowing the combat down, and is easily worth a wishlist and a watch.
