SpellRain is an Indie, Horde Survival / Wave Survival Bullet Hell Action game, a magic hurling, Top Down Shooter with bright and easy to read Pixel Graphics that is all about the spells.

The Spells:
I like how each spell feels different.
You have the starting magic bolt like spell, which is standard and reliable, but is a bolt that might be blocked by the walls of enemies in your way, as some monsters have bodyguards that take hits for their boss!
You can learn to call lightning, which comes from the sky, and does not require a path to that target, as it unloads from atop them!
There is the old favorite fireball, which is slow, but hits hard, and has a bit of an aoe.
You can toss ice lances, which are super fast, or shotgun ice blasts, which shred up close enemies, but are less effective vs. fellow icy bros.
That’s right, enemies have certain resistances to certain spell abilities: red slimes take less damage from fire, blue less from ice, stuff like that makes the spells feel even more unique, and this is clearly communicated to the player by the reduced damage , which is also shaded differently to further draw attention to that fact.

Lvl Up:
You lvl up and become stronger in SpellRain by lvling up your spells, buying and finding duplicate spells increases their lvl, making them hit harder and cost less, as everything else is secondary to the wizard; it’s all about the magic!

The Meta Progression:
The Meta Progression is the coins, which are used at the card vender at camp to randomly unlock a new spell that can then be found during runs; teleports, Ice lances, Ice mines, handy stuff like that.
There is also a 2nd component of the Meta Progression: Monster parts, monster parts used to make awesome new outfits!
Now, this is not just a fashion statement, as these outfits increase your hp, mana, and damage, and many grant a perk when you’re all decked out in a matching set.
Think vampirism, a drake familiar that follow you an roasts your foes, fun and powerful stuff like that.

Note: This is an early look at the demo for SpellRain, so any bugs or other oddness is not representative of the final product.
Still, SpellRain is a fun Action Horde Survival Shooter where the spells are the star, and is easily worth a wishlist and a watch.
