Another Streets of Rage 4, another Skate 3 video.
July 2021 introduced a second major patch, while it does have balance tweaks, this one feels like a "major new season" update along the likes of Street Fighter V going into Season 3 or Season 5.
Every character have brand new moves to unlock by playing Survival Mode (this run is still using his vanilla moves).
Sound effects have been revamped on nearly everything.
For starters there's a "swoosh" sound when the game loads up a new area.
Secondly picking up a Star has its own sound effect.
When players fall into the pit, they will have a grunt sound effect along with a screen shake.
Skate 3 has more sfx from his Streets of Rage 3 game including his dashing sfx and "heavy hit" sound when using his 2 hit blitz.
Nearly all of the enemies have new grunts... yet they have this hint of crackling compression to make it sound like it was from a Genesis game. The regular whipping girls at the end of stage 11 now share the same death grunts as the potion throwers.
The main differences in Mania plus:
+ Enemies have more health, this is notable against higher HP enemies.
+ If enemies' A.I is to grab, they will move very fast.
+ The average max speed is faster, some bad guys can run fast enough to avoid the car in stage 1.
+ More mid-bosses spawns like stage 3 Big Ben, stage 6 Pheasant and yes, stage 12 Baabo.
This was done on Story mode without handicap modifiers so that I could slowly unlock all of them as individual levels later on.
Stages 4 and 9 were the only real brutal tough ones to at least beat the level.
2023 info edit:
A new major 2023 balance patch has been released and it made Mania Plus an actual challenge by:
Increasing the score limit to earn 1ups
Introducing more enemy backups during boss fights
Cursed arcade machines, they spawn a retro boss. For example in stage 12 it can spawn SoR1 Mr X.
Also the requirement to get S ranks in IL scores have been increased. In 2021, the S Rank score targets were matching original Mania.
