I think most people would agree that TMNT on the NES wasn't a "good" game, mostly because of the extremely poor difficulty balancing, but it certainly could've been a lot worse. At least the game had awesome music, fast gameplay, powerups, and could actually be completed.

TMNT for DOS however... This is a great example of how NOT to port your game. I think the trouble ultimately was that they gave too few people too little time to port the game to multiple computers, and when the order came to release the game, the DOS version simply wasn't ready. The entire game has an unfinished feel (especially from the end of Level 3 onward) and can't be beaten without cheating.

Additional Information and Corrections:

* When explaining the keyboard controls, I say, "rest" of the controls. I have some weird grammar myself sometimes but "excelled my skills" is just TOO weird.

* In the original NES version of the game, you can reclaim a captured turtle on levels 3, 4 and 5. In this version, you can only rescue your turtles on level 4, and you can do it as many times as you need to... which kinda helps to compensate for the lack of pizza in levels 5 and 6... sorta... not really. :P

* One quick thing I didn't mention: If you die during the major boss encounters on level 4 or 5, you get sent back to the very beginning of the level. In level 5 this really doesn't do too much, but on level 4 this means you have to do the ENTIRE level over... x_x;

* Turns out the Amiga port of the game fixed many of the issues the DOS version had and is actually complete, but otherwise looks and plays exactly the same. Because of this, it's kinda weird that they never fixed up the DOS version...
