ADG Episode 149 - Star Control
Originally Released: October 4th, 2014

I've had a LOT of requests to do Star Control II, which is completely understandable given how good that game is, but I'd never played the original and it'd been sitting in my GOG collection for quite some time so I figured it was about time to give it a go and see how the series began... and much to my surprise, it began as a cross between turn-based strategy and one-on-one dogfighting action! :O

Additional Information and Corrections:
* Here's a link to the page on GOG you can buy both Star Control and Star Control II from: https://www.gog.com/game/star_control_i_ii/?pp=91dfde1d6e005e422f64a59776234f1f4c80b5e4
* There's actually a freeware variant of Star Control II out there titled "The Ur-Quan Masters", which may be worth checking out first before deciding to buy the original game on GOG. It's essentially the same game as the original SC2, but with some of the 3DO version's features and runs natively on modern operating systems. Mind you, I've had issues trying to use it in the past, but it's been worked on for so long now it probably works better now than it once did. If you want to check it out, head to this SourceForge site: http://sc2.sourceforge.net
* I didn't elaborate on the 14 different races and ships because to be perfectly honest: I'm not actually all that good at the Star Control games and thus it's difficult for me to explain strategies to use with them and whatnot. Plus, FOURTEEN different ships and races... you could make an entire episode dedicated just to that! :O
* Each side in the full game mode is limited to 7 ships at a time, just in case you were wondering why anyone would ever want to "scuttle" a ship.
* It's actually possible to get a draw in this game from the Melee and Full Game modes, but it's incredibly unlikely due to the circumstances necessary, most of which require Shofixti glory. :P
* Although I only showed this in the colourations in the game stats, this is one of the few DOS games which hacked the CGA mode to change magenta to red, thus the four colours used are black, red, cyan and white.
