Alfred Tries To Play: Earnest Evans (Sega Mega Drive)
I'll be earnest about my opinion on Earnest Evans: it sucks.
But why? The interesting thing about this game is that the main character (the titular Evans who is basically a 2nd rate Indiana Jones ripoff), unlike most others at the time is composed of numerous individually animated sprites, although the effect makes him look a bit like a robotic ragdoll rather than a convincing looking human movement.
This feature also ruins the gameplay which is technically suspect, Evans is forever getting snagged in the scenery and the controls are often unresponsive, and the difficulty is also unfair due to the fact enemies will quickly drain your health.
So the earnest truth is that this game is one of the worst platformers on the Mega Drive.
This game was also a Mega-CD release in Japan, and is part of a 3-game trilogy with the other entries being fellow Mega Drive title El Viento and the Japan-only Mega-CD title Anetto Futatabi.
