Alfred Tries To Play: Speedball (Sega Master System)
When I played Speedball 2 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jng-PPTpHnk&list=PLFegsYe6jkV6XM9GDWZTFCBOGVlQywT62&index=87) on Sega Mega Drive earlier this year, I promised I'd also try the original Speedball on Sega Master System. So now I have, how do the 2 compare?
To be honest, if you play this before Speedball 2, it should be enjoyable enough, but once you've played the faster and more refined sequel, there's no going back. This definitely feels like a stripped down version of the sequel, lacking all the secondary scoring methods present from that game that help make it interesting. This just feels too plain and generic by comparison.
Also, there seems to be slowdown anytime more than a few players are on screen (which is about 90%) of the time. It's not a bad game, but Speedball 2 really does blow this out of the water, full stop.
Amusingly however, this seems to be the only sports game I've ever played where bribing an official is something that's allowed!
