AMD's Frank Azor has revealed AMD's plan to STAY on top in an interview with Hot Hardware, following their CES 2022 conference. The AMD gaming chief discussed their plans to stay competitive in price vs performance against Intel, including AM5 platform longevity (how many Ryzen / Zen CPU generations it will support), Ryzen V Cache AKA Ryzen 5800X3D, and their general roadmap plans. Intel has finally offered some comeptitive gaming and workload performance with Alder Lake, so Zen 3D AKA Ryzen 5800X3D and Zen 4 will need to offer huge performance and IPC gains in order for AMD to keep the processor throne.
AM4 had popularity with gamers, as you could upgrade to the latest Ryzen processors without investing in a new motherboard / chipset.
