An Idea for Poseable Warhammer Flying Stands using Lego
Poseable Warhammer Flying Stands was something I really wanted but didn’t want to use magnets to do it. Turns out Lego can be a very good and cheap solution for alternate flyer stands. Way better than I expected honestly. The Games Workshop brittle flying stems are fine if you’re very careful with your minis but they accidentally break in transport cases or small drops. The Legos have such an advantage over them it’s hilarious. Dirt cheap, readily available, very modular, flexible, durable… The list goes on with just how good they are. Useable for Warhammer Age of Sigmar, 40k, or other tabletop games that require flight stands really.
They just don’t look as good as transparent stems and not quite as indestructible as metal rods. That’s literally the only downside to thr sturdy & strong Lego technic flying stand alternatives. Making them easy to move around and transport more than makes up for this drawback! A great solution for large armies and limited carrying case space.
I added a few tips at the end of this guide, but it wasn’t supposed to be a tutorial since these alternates are easy to work with. Adds a bit of nostalgia if anything.
Special shout out to the Magnet Baron. Great alternatives, I just want my stuff fully modular in terms of moving them from base to base. Interchangeable bases and attachment points means you can move the Warhammer flyers, skimmers, or bikers anywhere you’d like. Swapping between competitive, display, and diorama bases in seconds is such an incredible feature and all you need to do is paint it black.
They’re especially great for toy photography because you can tilt, rotate, and angle with the Lego ball joint. I can probably just keep gushing on how much I enjoy this discovery but I’m planning on equipping all my miniatures for it. The sub-assembly ease is even better! I just wish it was effective for Forgeworld and heavier models but even the Bionicle technic parts are a bit sketchy for keeping up fragile, expensive resin.
Soapbox Talk – Tentative title for another DDBuilds series. I don’t like doing opinion pieces unless it’s for a wild idea that I use frequently or something rather benign that shouldn’t spark unnecessary rabid commentary. Whether it be using Lego in Warhammer projects like a filthy heretic or describing an approach to something unusual, this series aims to add food for thought when approaching a conventional topic with unconventional means.
