I had an idea of a unique game mechanic to make my arcade shooter stand out. The player has an "Overclock" meter that fills up every time the player destroys an enemy and goes up by different intervals for each enemy type. When it is full, the player will be able to choose a type of power-up and use the energy stored in the Overclock meter to apply it. The three power-up types can increase the player's movement speed, increase their rate of fire, or give the player a shield that protects them from damage once before breaking. This is a prototype of the mechanic that will be reworked with custom progress bar and power-up type icon sprites.
