This is an example test video of the Apple iPod Touch Fourth Generation (4th Gen), recording video using the front-facing camera.

In order to compare and contrast the different quality settings of both cameras on this device, two different example test videos were taken using the Apple iPod Touch Fourth Generation (4th Gen) (both available on my YouTube channel) namely using the front and rear facing cameras.

Both quality settings are encoded by the device using the H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1) video codec, producing a .MOV file for each video. The audio records in stereo and uses the MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a) codec at 44100 Hz.

The front-facing camera produced a video resolution of 640 X 480 at 30 frames per second (FPS) and weighed in at 9,768 kb of disk space for 21 seconds of video.

The rear-facing camera produced a video resolution of 1280 X 720 at 29.97 frames per second (FPS) and weighed in at 36,734 kb of disk space for 27 seconds of video.

Despite the noticeable difference in file size and video resolution between the front-facing camera and rear-facing camera capture formats, quality of the video and audio capture was impressive using either camera on the iPod Touch, given the iPod Touch's overall price range. It should be noted that the rear-facing camera capture video had problems streaming in VLC Media Player on an Intel Atom 1.6 GHz processor NetBook with Windows XP 32 bit and 1 gig of RAM due to its sheer quality.
