Are induction stoves always on?

While tidying up in the kitchen, I noticed that the pot on the stove (which was turned off) felt weird. Kind of sticky and slightly fuzzy or vibrating.
Turns out there is a voltage on that pot of almost 40V AC!
So I guess you better not put electronic equipment on your stove. Even when it is turned off.
Any ideas why this is the case are welcome in the comments!
