Are Let's Plays Dead on YouTube? (The Delicroix Design)
“Are Let’s Plays Dead on YouTube,” is a question that has been thrown around a lot in recent months with the rise of faster paced videos, comedic content, and over-saturation of the market. Now, I don’t personally think that let’s plays are dead yet, but I do think that a lot has happened to make them less likely to thrive and succeed on YouTube. Now, I don’t think that a let’s play is unable to be “fast paced” or “comedic,” as it is entirely contextual based on the creator and the content as to how the game is actually presented. So if you are looking for a TL; DR of my answer to the “are let’s plays dead on YouTube,” question: No, I do not.
So, this is going to hopefully resurge The Delicroix Design (TDD) on my channel, so I am going to write a small blurb about the series so I have something to copy pasta on each video.
The Delicroix Design is a series in which I speak about the design of my mind or the framework of my existence. This can be as deep as the way that I treat other people or as shallow as my thoughts on ice cream. The series exists solely to pull thoughts and idea out of my head and extrapolate them to my audience. My goals with TDD consist of transparency to build a more personal relationship with and inspire my viewers. I hope that some of the topic discussed in previous and future episodes can bring some insight to the people watching and help them take steps to being a better person, whether it is by seeing how much of a douche I am or the opposite.
This topic in particular is more of an opinion piece and is most being used to let people know that I am not giving up on the classic let’s play format. My channel has grown and made me very happy base on the premise that let’s plays are NOT dead on YouTube. Of course, I started my channel in a much different time and spent several years doing nothing to promote or encourage the growth of my content. Now, I am almost whipping a dead horse by continuing to do let’s plays without having already built an audience who is interested in this content. However, I started YouTube to do my own thing and enjoy it, so if that sort of content is going to fail then I am just going to have to find the enjoyment in it for myself, rather than in seeing others enjoy it.
Hopefully the new subscribers I have gained in recent months are okay with the let’s play format and won’t all jump ship come my next series, but if they do then I know that there will still be people around who like my content for what it is. So the next time someone asks you “Are let’s plays dead on YouTube?” Tell them that there is still some fucking idiot named Delicroix doing them and I will happily take them under my wing and help them see the light.
