Are These Best Included Video Game Controllers Of All-Time?
95When it comes to different video game systems, the controller that you utilize can make all the difference in the world regarding your enjoyment or lack thereof of of a particular video game system. One of the reasons, for example, that I am not a bigger fan of the Xbox is I hate the original controllers. The Duke controller, the Xbox 360 controller, some of my least favorites. But what are some of my favorite controllers included with systems? And specifically the very first iteration of a system? Let's take and see whether these are the best included video game controllers of all-time, and we are going to exclude revisions to hardware. So for example the Xbox S controller or the dog bone controller from Nintendo will not count.
Sega Master System
I think one of the criminally underrated systems of all time has to be the Sega Master System, at least here in the United States. We all know that in Europe and South America the Master System was a beloved system. I think the original Master System controller is exceptional as far as comfort and layout. I like the d-pad, the buttons are responsive, and the corners of the controllers don't dig into my hands like the NES controllers do. I just wish it had a pause button!
TurboGrafx 16
Take everything good that I just said about the Master System controller, you can apply that to the TurboGrafx 16 controller, and then some. The TG 16 controller does add in additional features such as a pause button, a select button, but perhaps most importantly it has two slide switches to adjust the turbo fire speed right on the stock controller. This is such an amazing control pad that I wish more people would experience.
PS5 DualSense Controller
When I first saw the PlayStation DualSense controller I was very concerned as it was a big change from the DualShock series. It looked huge, I thought the adaptive triggers would be a gimmick, I just wasn't sold on it. And then I played a game with it and it is now one of my favorite controllers of all time. It's super comfortable, the adaptive triggers work perfectly, and it's a beautiful evolution of the DualShock 4. I just wish the battery life was a little bit better and that it didn't tend to have stick drift like it does.
Super Nintendo and Super Famicom Controller
This to me is video game perfection! The Super Nintendo controller is so good it was the design inspiration for the PlayStation controller dating back to the Nintendo Play Station. It's well balanced, it's not too heavy but not too light, the buttons are all laid out perfectly, and I love the concave and convex button shapes. The one thing I wish someone eventually would do would be to come out with the Super Nintendo button shapes with the Super Famicom button colors.
