How Do You Store Your Video Game Collection | New 3D Printed Solutions
How do you store and maintain your video game collection? Do you use shelving units? IKEA has a number of different shelves that many gamers have used over the years to keep their gear clean, neat, and organized. I use the Kallax underneath my TV to store my systems for example. Do you use shelving units? I definitely use those. What about officially licensed storage solutions from Nintendo, Sega, and other manufacturers? I have a few of those for the Super Nintendo, Super Famicom, and the Nintendo 64. But perhaps my favorite solution is to design my own and 3D print them. My latest design is for games for the Nintendo Entertainment System, and it has some definite retro flare to it. Let's take a look.
Out of all of the game stands that I have designed, one of the things that I've tried to do is utilize some sort of elevation change. This lets you see the labels and the games a little easier so you know what you're trying to grab. One of the first ones I designed like this was for the Nintendo Famicom, and I designed that setup so that it would store four, five, or six different games. I later incorporated something like this into the stand I designed for the HyperMegaTech! Super Pocket, with the same elevation change to that. But I really wanted something special and unique for the NES.
I wanted to add in the aesthetic of the NES cartridge itself to the stand, along with the NES Logo. I also added little details into the face such as the triangle that the cartridges have on them as well. I wanted to design something that was compact and could go just about anywhere, and that's how I wound up on my design here.
From start to finish, I spent about a week and a half on this design. I had to play around with different spacing, different heights, different materials and more until I finally got something I really liked. I had them available at TORGs In Ohio earlier this year, and I will also have them in my booth at the Utah Retro Game swap during the first week of August. This is a longer print which is why I'm leaning towards a price between $20 and $25.
What do you think of this design? Is this something you would utilize? Would you like to see more designs along this line? Let me know down in the comments.
