Clean Nintendo Switch Games & Systems | 3D Printing A Better Solution!
98I recently announced my NEStoration™ SwitchaRoo™ two-in-one cleaning device for the Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED, along with the cartridges and variant systems. I had been working on this design, and thought it was to the point of being good enough, but I wasn't thrilled with it. I went back to the drawing board to make some more refinements to the Cartridge cleaner side, and now I can say I have come up with a better solution to clean Switch Games (and systems) the right way, and it's all thanks to 3D printing.
I have been working on a solution for quite some time, ironic choice of words since it actually uses no solution at all. One of my major goals was to make these cleaners a 2-in-1 design, capable of cleaning the system and cartridge contacts with one unit. I also wanted these to be completely 3D printed, this way I could control the manufacturing, design, and overall production quality of the units.
The issue I needed to solve was making sure the cleaning surfaces were able to reach the contacts on the cartridges properly, as there was a plastic "cage" around the contact area. I thought I had this solved, but the more I tested my design the more I didn't like the amount of force I needed to apply to get the pins aligned and inserted. Back to the drawing board and 5 more revisions. I added material, removed material, changed heights, and added fillets and chamfers until I finally had my definitive version of the SwitchaRoo cleaner.
In the end, this took me another week of testing, redesigning, and perfecting while I was also working on other projects, and I'm proud to say that these are available now for order.
