Arm Wrestling, 1985 Nintendo
Weird game of arm wrestling (before the famed ARM CHAMPS series) where you must pin the arm of the opponent. If only it were that simple, really.. you must "work" the opponent's arm to your left by pushing the controller left until they make a face-- you'll know it when you see it (the opponent often snorts or blows steam from their nose)-- and when they do, push the controller back to the right to daze them. During the daze, wail on the power button to fill up a meter above the opponent's head. When it's filled, keep working the enemy's arm to the left (the cpu seems to say "go left" repeatedly). For the first 2 opponents-- Texas Mac and Kabuki-- this strategy leads to victory. Don't forget though: YOU MUST BEAT THE OPPONENT WITHIN ONE MINUTE OR YOU LOSE!!! Afterwards, you attempt to catch a falling bag of money worth 50,000 bucks (its timing is deliberately tricky, and you can fail in the catch, resulting in a taunting by the referee). Then onto the rest of the 5 opponents, and they CHEAT from now on. Though, if you learn to time it exactly right, you can turn their cheat into an instant win! We start with Mask X (who is really Bald Bull from PUNCH-OUT!!), who will raise his left arm and then head butt you! But if you dodge (pull the controller to the left) you can pull his mask off and end the round (he's stunned and you pin him automatically). Next up is Alice and APE III (a robot ape!). The homely girl uses her robot to try to pin you, using an electronic controller to execute its actions. Its cheat method is to grab a magnet and zap you with it, leaving you shocked as it pins you. There will be an 8-note sound before it tries to touch you with it. Just as it ends you can reach right and grab it; you will then touch the robot to zap it and win! Next is Frank Jr. (Frankenstein's monster). His cheat is to hold up a "Wait" notice-- you can't attack here. RIGHT as soon as it ends you can press right to stun him and fill the meter, then force his arm left. But after saying "Wait" 4 times he will start to breathe fire. If you time it just right you can dodge his fire, fill up the daze meter and wail on the left and pin him. Then you try to catch another money bag and then start it all over again. More than anything, TIMING is the key to victory in this game. Timing, timing, timing! Especially when the opponent cheats! A very bizarre and difficult controller-wise game, but very playable, with a refreshingly silly sense of humor. Just don't start wailing on the controls until the girl says "GO", or you get a warning. One more slip-up and the game will end with an automatic pin.
