Mech version of Final Fight. Choose up to 3 simultaneous mech pilots and take on enemies of the planets Raia and Earth. Various destroyed parts of other mechs can be adopted by your mech. These include drills, laser swords, homing orbs, and other cool hi-tech weaponry. Basically the same structure as any Final Fight clone: mow through fodder enemies till you reach a boss with a long-ass energy meter. Very nice graphics (as you'd expect from Capcom) and anime-style characters make this very visually appealing. The storyline doesn't really grab me, though it's cool that one of the aliens from Raia is one of your group. Apart from some of the weapon upgrades (especially the laser blade and drill) and the lovely graphics, this didn't really do a whole lot for me.. maybe I kind of got burned out on all the Final Fight clones of the time, save for The Punisher and The Combatribes, and maybe a few others. I never saw this one in the arcades. It was also called Powered Gear- Strategic Variant Armor Equipment in Japan. And it had a sequel in 1995: Cyberbots- Fullmetal Madness. Give it a shot if you're curious as to what Final Fight meeting the mech craze would be like.
