7We haven't seen one before, but there are a lot of Angband variants. And I mean a LOT of them. You could check out Roguebasin and look for any games with "angband" or just "band" in their name to get an idea. Here we preview one of them, and I must say, there are a bunch of little things that change the pace for the better. Bookshelves, easier diving, physical trauma before death, that k button that I have no idea what it's for...plenty of features to keep someone who likes Angband to play this instead.
In fact, the Angband variant community is a great example of "modding" in roguelikes. Many of the same rules and designs are followed, but there are still changes that give an Angband veteran something to enjoy. It's a lot like (to take an example I know personally) all of the original Doom total conversions out there: if you enjoyed the ancestor thoroughly, well, here are 100 expansion packs to try out!
