Artist Janet Echelman makes monumental sculptures of humble materials--woven rope. In her latest piece, Skies Painted with Unnumbered Sparks, created to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the TED Conference, she wanted to work in a scale never before possible. She turned to Autodesk for both sponsorship of the sculpture, and the technology that enabled her to simulate the effects of gravity, wind and weather on her piece.
