0I played some of the newer AC and went back to this and, oh boy, are the controls rough.
The quality of life improvements of Black Flag seem to be a generation ahead of the jittering and sloppy controls of the original games. Similarly, I'm guessing this is a bad port because the pop-in and frame rate slow downs are some of the worst I've ever seen.
Likewise, if you ever wanted frustrating instant fail missions that force you to either follow or babysit characters this game will drive you up a wall. The controls continue to be a problem when the weirdos who designed intricate parkour/climbing puzzles want you to be ultra precise and their scheme lends itself to being mushy and floaty.
AND YET, it's still a great game. One of the better stories, plenty of interesting characters, and the thrill of exploring Rome are all there and they're all great. Building your own Assassin brotherhood and watching them take out your enemies is a feeling second to none. The game continues to have great style, addictive building mini-games, and it continues to downplay Desmond and that is great in my book.
If you can handle the sometimes ugly graphics and the stiff, imprecise controls, and endless following missions there is a lot to love here.
