Assault Rigs - Sega Saturn - Intro & Gameplay [720p 60fps]
The Saturn's port of Assault Rigs is a rare example of a western developed game that was released in Japan, but not in the west. At first glance this looks to be a straight up decent port of the Psygnosis PlayStation tank shooter with just the two player mode removed. Unfortunately first impression are very deceptive as while the first level is very smooth playing, the frame rate soon comes crashing down on the later larger levels. The frame rate isn't as bad as Saturn Doom meaning it avoids featuring in our Gaming Nightmare series of video just about. It's far from being a great port and from the second world on wards the frame rate is so bad controlling your tank becomes a bit of a problem as you will see in this video.
Added to the Saturn port woes, long time fans of the PlayStation version will notice the factory level sequence order isn't correct. This is due to the first level of the factory being cut from the Saturn's version altogether, likely due to porting issues. There may also be more level cuts later on, but we haven't played that far through it to find out. All in all this is one port to avoid altogether so go for either the PlayStation or PC version unless you have no other gaming consoles bar a Saturn.
Perfect Entertainment weren't known for doing great Saturn ports and it's all to easy to see why this didn't get a European and USA release.
