Astalon tears of the Earth is a Castlevania styled game with a open map, but a set path.
Which you also have in castlevania, since new abilities open up new paths. The game comes in a neat NES styled pixel art and got a gloomy story about a pact with a Demon. The difficulty is.... managable and each time you die, you basically can level up.
So let me explain the last part. So your Maincharacter is this Mage (with a weirdly young looking portrait, but that is supposed to be the caretaker of the other hero), who has a pact with a demon and you can't fulfill this pact when you die. So this Demon is turning the time back and sets you at the beginning of the game, kinda. Items you find, will stay in your iventory and gems you collected can be used to pay the demon for upgrades (which enhances your ability and basically are level ups).
So with the Stronger version of your heros you climb the tower again.
So if you buy some items to early or level up a character that doesn't help you for the moment, you make yourself the game too difficult, so you go as far as you can, get as many gems as possible and get the missing power as soon as you've died.
