Anomaly 2 is a flipped Tower Defense game. In a Tower Defense (short TD) you normally build towers left and right of a path, so attack incoming enemies that wants to get to your base.
But in Anomaly 2, you are said mobs and youre trying to get into the base. But instead of blindly tanking the damage, you can attack and destroy these defenses, picking the safest route and collect resources on your way. You directly control a commander, who is on foot. You can walk around with WASD and move your mouse freely to click on your units to upgrade them, switch their attack mode but also to place area of effect "spells", to repair your units in it, placing a decoy to divert the fire away from your units and two other things that i havent seen yet myself. The game is always shown in a top down view like a real time strategy game, but it's fully in 3D.
