Atari 8-bit: K-Razy Antiks
3There are some superficial similarities to Pac-Man, with the maze and four enemies, but the gameplay is its own unique thing. K-Razy Antiks doesn't have a conventional life system, instead giving you a supply of eggs, which act as respawn points, that you can place at will by pressing the fire button. Don't go overboard, though, since you can run out, and placed eggs can also be eaten by enemy ants or the anteater!
Conversely, you (and the anteater) can also eat enemy eggs, and when you eat one, your ant will start flashing. Press the fire button when flashing to lay an explosion, your only direct form of attack. This is obviously useful when there's an enemy on your tail, and bombing an enemy egg (or lucking into having the anteater eat it) when it's about to hatch will replenish some of your egg supply as a bonus!
If an enemy ant dies when there are no enemy eggs left, it gets stuck in the box in the middle of the screen. Your goal for each stage is to trap all four of them in there. Once that happens, you advance to the next stage, and a new(?) set of enemy ants invades, to the tune of "The Ants Go Marching" (tune originally from "When Johnny Comes Marching Home").
The game also has a number of alternate maze layouts, which you can pick from the title screen by pressing Select. It doesn't change the gameplay that much, but it's nice for a little variety.
Fan fact: All three thumbnail options I was offered have rain and flooding.
